Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by significant problems or deficits with social communication, social interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviors. Autistic individuals or those with autism may have different ways of learning, paying attention, managing, and interacting with their environment. ASD is considered a neurodevelopmental disorder which means symptoms generally appear early in life and affects an individual’s brain functions, resulting in mild to severe difficulties in life. Although ASD is typically diagnosed when an individual is younger, some children can be misdiagnosed, “fly under the radar,” or go undiagnosed due to limited resources and other reasons. As a result, these individuals go through life struggling or feeling misunderstood and do not know why.

  • At TNI, we can help families with early identification in children, as well as young adults and adults who suspect they meet criteria for ASD. We also provide re-evaluations to assist in identifying cognitive strengths and weaknesses and any anxiety or mood challenges they may be experiencing. In order to receive an accurate diagnosis, in addition to working directly with the individual, our evaluation process can include gathering information from caregivers and/or significant others. This is at the comfort and consent of the patient. It is important that the doctor can have information on the patient's developmental history and both historical and current social and communication behaviors. Regardless of the outcome, TNI's evaluation services can provide information and answers for both the individual and their support system on how to better and successfully navigate life.
